KFC has reopened in Kigali, launching operations at a new outlet in Kimironko after months of closure due to infrastructure works.

The global fast-food brand announced the reopening on Wednesday via its social media platforms, inviting customers to its new location at the former Engen petrol station.

“Kigali, we’re back. Our doors are officially open at Engen Kimironko—your favorite chicken, hotter than ever. Bring your friends,” the company said.

KFC had closed its Remera branch in December 2025 after the building housing the outlet was earmarked for demolition to pave the way for road construction.

The new Kimironko branch, located opposite Simba Supermarket, marks the brand’s return to the Rwandan market and signals renewed expansion plans.

The company is also preparing to open two additional outlets in Gikondo and Muhima in the coming weeks, as it seeks to strengthen its presence in Kigali’s competitive fast-food sector.

Founded in the United States and headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, KFC operates more than 31,000 outlets in over 150 countries worldwide, ranking among the largest global restaurant chains alongside McDonald’s, Subway and Starbucks.
