Officers from the Rwanda Defence Forces Senior Command and Staff Course (RDFSCSC), Intake 14, are on a study tour aimed at deepening their understanding of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) liberation war and its role in ending the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The three-day exercise, which began on April 22 and runs until April 24, 2026, is designed to provide senior officers with practical insights into the planning, execution, and outcomes of the liberation campaign.
The study tour commenced at the Kagitumba border post, where participants received briefings from senior RDF generals and other officers who actively participated in the liberation struggle.
The sessions focus on key aspects of military strategy, including operational planning, battlefield tactics, and decision-making processes that shaped the success of the liberation war.
Military officials say the exercise is intended to strengthen professional competence among senior officers by drawing lessons from Rwanda’s history, particularly in leadership, coordination, and operational effectiveness during critical national security operations.
