Sports Minister Nelly Mukazayire has urged Rwandans to turn out in large numbers to support the country’s volleyball teams as they compete in the round of 16 of the African Men’s Volleyball Championship, with four local clubs chasing quarter-final qualification.
APR VC, Kepler VC, Police VC and REG VC are all in action in decisive knockout matches at BK Arena, where victory guarantees a place in the last eight of the continental tournament.
In a message shared on X, Mukazayire described Wednesday as a defining moment for Rwandan volleyball and called on fans to strongly back the teams.
“Tomorrow will be a crucial day as our volleyball teams compete for a place in the quarter-finals at BK Arena. Let us all come out in large numbers to support our teams,” she said.
The fixtures present a mix of high-intensity encounters, with APR VC facing Morocco’s Faith Union Sport in a tough 8 p.m. clash. A win would set up a potential quarter-final showdown against either Egyptian giants Al Ahly—16-time champions of the competition—or Kalibi SC of Ghana.
Earlier at 2 p.m., Police VC, the only Rwandan team to top its group, will face Nigeria Customs Service in a highly anticipated match. A win would set up a possible all-Rwanda quarter-final encounter against the winner between Kepler VC and Kenya’s General Service Unit, if both sides progress.
At midday, REG VC will take on Uganda’s Sport-S, with a potential quarter-final meeting against either Nemo Stars (Uganda) or Kenya Sports VC awaiting the winner.
All round-of-16 matches are scheduled for the same day, with winners advancing directly to the quarter-finals while losing teams exit the tournament.
