Masaka FC win 2026 Umurenge Kagame Cup after dominant 6-3 final victory

Masaka FC, representing Masaka Sector in Kicukiro District, has been crowned champions of the 2026 Umurenge Kagame Cup after a commanding 6-3 victory over Nyarugenge in the men’s football final.

The final, played on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Bugesera District Stadium, attracted thousands of fans and senior government officials, including the Minister of Local Government, Habimana Dominique, and the Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire.

Masaka FC delivered a dominant performance in a high-scoring encounter, taking a 4-1 lead into halftime before sealing a comprehensive 6-3 win in a match that produced nine goals.

In the women’s category, Mahembe Sector of Nyamasheke District successfully defended its title after defeating Kacyiru on penalties (5-4) following a tightly contested final.

The tournament brought together teams from 416 sectors across the country, reinforcing its status as one of Rwanda’s largest grassroots football competitions.

In other disciplines, Kicukiro BBC claimed the basketball title after defeating Kamonyi BBC 81-69 in the final.

In volleyball, Kicukiro won the men’s title with a 3-0 win over Gasabo, while Ngoma secured the women’s crown after beating Gicumbi by the same scoreline.

In sitting volleyball, Gasabo triumphed in the men’s category, while Kirehe emerged champions in the women’s competition.

The tournament also featured third-place playoff matches played on June 20, where Rubengera defeated Mbazi 2-0.

The Umurenge Kagame Cup, named in honor of President Paul Kagame since 2010, marked its 20th edition since its inception in 2006.
