As Rwanda marks the 32nd Liberation Day (Kwibohora), the Rwanda National Police and the Rwanda Defence Force have announced that community development projects implemented since March 2026 are valued at more than Rwf 2.7 billion.
The announcement was made during a televised interview featuring Police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga and the Deputy Spokesperson of the Rwanda Defence Force (Rwanda Defence Force (RDF)), Lt Col Simon Kabera.
The officials said the joint initiatives focus on improving livelihoods and supporting vulnerable communities through infrastructure development and social support programmes.
Nationwide social infrastructure drive
The projects include construction of schools, housing units for vulnerable families, provision of healthcare services, and livestock distribution aimed at boosting household incomes.
Officials said the interventions are designed to combine service delivery with community participation, creating both social impact and employment opportunities.
Key interventions across provinces
In the Southern Province, schools were constructed in Rugarika (Kamonyi District), medical services were delivered in Munini (Nyaruguru District), and 80 housing units were built for vulnerable families in Muganza Sector, Gisagara District. The “two-in-one” housing model will benefit 160 households.
In the Eastern Province, housing units were built in Rwinkwavu (Kayonza District), while livestock distribution programmes were implemented in Nyamugari Sector, Kirehe District.
In the Northern Province, new houses were constructed in Rulindo District, alongside a bridge in Gakenke District and additional housing support for disaster-affected and vulnerable families.
In the Western Province, housing projects were completed in Nyabihu District, while boats were provided to improve transport for residents of Nyamasheke and Rusizi districts.
In Kigali City, classrooms were constructed in Rwinkuba, Gasabo District.
Youth reintegration programmes supported
The initiative also supports “Imboni z’Impinduka,” youth groups composed of former drug users who are now engaged in rehabilitation and income-generating activities.
Total value and impact
Officials said the combined value of the projects exceeds Rwf 2.7 billion, implemented in collaboration with local communities.
They noted that the programmes align with the broader mandate of security organs to contribute to national development and support government priorities focused on improving citizens’ welfare.
The projects are among key activities being showcased during this year’s Liberation Day celebrations across selected districts.
