The Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) has announced the players selected to represent the country at the FIBA Africa U18 Zone 5 qualifiers scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt.

FERWABA named 12 players for both the women’s and men’s U18 national teams that will compete in the regional tournament from July 23 to 29, 2026, as they seek qualification for the continental championship.

The U18 women’s team will be coached by Joseline Munyaneza, who will be assisted by Mussa Harerimama and Fabrice Siniremera.

The men’s U18 team will be led by Patriots BBC head coach Sunny Munyandamutsa Niyomugabo, with former Rwanda international Aristide Mugabe and Bienvenue Ngandu Mbanze joining the technical staff as assistants.

Both teams left Kigali on Monday night and travelled to Cairo, where they will complete their preparations before the start of the qualifiers.

The Zone 5 competition will determine the teams that qualify for the FIBA Africa U18 Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from August 8 to 16, 2026.

Rwanda will be aiming to secure continental qualification in both categories as it continues to strengthen its youth basketball development programme.
