Bugesera FC have named Gatera Mussa as their new head coach on a one-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 Rwanda Premier League season.
The Eastern Province-based club confirmed Gatera’s appointment on Monday, with the coach replacing Banamwana Camarade, who left the team after being appointed head coach of Sunrise FC.
The announcement came after a delay caused by Gatera’s contractual situation with AS Muhanga, where he was in charge last season. He had to first resolve matters with the club before officially joining Bugesera.
Gatera takes over after AS Muhanga were relegated from the Rwanda Premier League last season, finishing 17th among 18 teams with 31 points.
Munyeshyaka Gaspard, who guided AS Muhanga back to the top flight before helping Sunrise FC secure promotion this season, is expected to replace him at the Muhanga-based side.
The new Bugesera coach is familiar with Rwandan football, having previously managed Rutsiro FC, Sunrise FC, Isonga FC, Espoir FC and Gorilla FC.
He has also served as assistant coach at Rayon Sports and previously led Rwanda’s U17 national team.
Gatera’s immediate task will be to prepare Bugesera for the new campaign as the club aims to build a competitive squad and improve its performance in the 2026/27 season.
