Police FC has set its sights on winning the Rwanda Premier League title in the 2026/27 season as the club begins a new chapter marked by squad reinforcements, a revamped technical structure and renewed ambitions.
The club’s chairman, CP Yahaya M. Kamunuga, said the league championship is the main target for the new campaign, insisting that Police FC has made the necessary preparations to compete for the top prize.
“Our goal this season is clear: to win the league title. We have done everything possible to put together a team capable of achieving this objective, and we have no plans to step back from that ambition,” Kamunuga said.
The chairman made the remarks during a season launch event at the Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru, Kigali, where the club unveiled its new players, coaching staff, management team and kits for the upcoming season.
Police FC has strengthened its squad with six new arrivals, including Kenyan midfielder Japhet Mzungu from Sofapaka FC, defender Chris Rushema from Rayon Sports, striker Keffa Tangara from Mali’s Djoliba AC, forward Moussa Limane from Ghana’s Asante Kotoko, left-back Iddrisu Shaibu and Byishimo Valua from Bugesera FC.
Kamunuga confirmed that the club has completed its transfer activities for the current window and will only return to the market in January 2027 if additional reinforcements are needed.
The club has also introduced changes to its leadership structure, appointing SP Diane Ntakirutimana as secretary general, CIP Emmanuel Ruzigana as team manager and Antoine Rutsindura, popularly known as Mabombe, as technical director—a position that has been newly created at the club.
On the technical side, Moroccan coach Rkyer Jaafar has been appointed head coach and will work alongside his compatriot Bakkali Tahiri Mostafa, who becomes his assistant, as well as other members of the existing coaching staff.
Beyond the pursuit of trophies, Police FC says it is also focusing on building a sustainable future through youth development. Kamunuga said the club plans to invest more in its academy teams to ensure that talented young players can progress into the senior squad.
He explained that the former Interforce team, which previously served as the club’s development side, has been replaced by Under-17 and Under-20 teams.
Rutsindura said the club remains committed to nurturing young talent while maintaining its competitiveness in Rwanda’s top flight.
Meanwhile, coach Jaafar has been handed three major objectives for the season: winning the Rwanda Premier League title, lifting the Peace Cup and guiding Police FC to the group stage of African club competitions.
The event concluded with the unveiling of Police FC’s three new kits for the 2026/27 season, produced by sportswear manufacturer Masita.
