Rayon Sports have parted ways with Malian goalkeeper Drissa Kouyaté by mutual agreement, bringing an end to a difficult spell for the 27-year-old at the Rwandan club.
The development was confirmed by Rayon Sports interim president Murenzi Abdallah, who said the decision followed Kouyaté’s limited playing time since joining the club.
Kouyaté arrived at Rayon Sports in the summer of 2025 with expectations of becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, he struggled to establish himself and made just two league appearances.
The club later signed Kwizera Olivier on a six-month contract in January 2026, while Mugisha Yves and Ishimwe Patrick also featured in goal.
Kouyaté’s time at the club was further complicated by a contractual dispute. Rayon Sports terminated his contract, prompting the goalkeeper to file a complaint with FIFA.
The dispute contributed to Rayon Sports being placed under a transfer ban before the two sides eventually returned to negotiations and reached an agreement. Kouyaté subsequently resumed training with the club.
His last appearance for Rayon Sports came on July 18 during Rayon Day, when the Blues defeated Kenyan side Gor Mahia 2-0. He entered the match in the second half, replacing Dande Junior.
He did not feature in the club’s subsequent matchday squads, with the foreign-player quota also limiting the club’s options.
Rayon Sports had 14 foreign players in its squad, while only eight foreign players can be included on the match sheet in Rwandan competitions.
Kouyaté now leaves Rayon Sports as the club continues rebuilding its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. The club had previously identified the goalkeeper position as one of the areas requiring reinforcement.
