Rayon Sports are weighing their options in midfield as the club looks to complete its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, with Jean Bosco Ruboneka and Burundian midfielder Elie Eldinho Mokono among the players under consideration.
Ruboneka, who is currently a free agent after leaving APR FC, was reportedly the club’s first target. Talks between the two sides initially progressed before breaking down over an agreement.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined APR FC from AS Muhanga in 2019 but is now without a club.
After failing to reach an agreement with Ruboneka, Rayon Sports reportedly turned its attention to Eldinho, who currently plays for Tanzania’s Fountain Gate FC.
Talks between Rayon Sports and the 26-year-old Burundian are said to have progressed well, with the midfielder emerging as a strong option for the club ahead of the new campaign.
Eldinho is an attacking midfielder who previously played for Burundian side Bumamuru FC before moving to Tanzania.
Rayon Sports are also monitoring another Burundian midfielder, 22-year-old Kamana Karimu of Vision FC, who is understood to be an alternative should the club fail to complete a deal for either Ruboneka or Eldinho.
The club is racing to finalise its squad as the deadline to submit its players’ list for the CAF Confederation Cup falls on Friday, August 14.
Rayon Sports recently parted ways with Malian goalkeeper Drissa Kouyaté by mutual agreement, opening room for another foreign-player registration.
However, the club’s foreign-player numbers remain a consideration as it seeks to finalise its squad for both domestic and continental competition.
The midfield recruitment comes as Rayon Sports continue to strengthen the squad ahead of a season in which they will compete on both the domestic and continental fronts.
