Sports journalist and former Rwanda international footballer Clarisse Uwimana has been elected vice president of Kigali Football Club, the newly renamed former AS Kigali.
Uwimana was elected during the club’s General Assembly on Sunday, August 16, 2026, as members moved to fill a vacant position on the executive committee elected in 2025.
She replaces Anne-Lise Kankindi and will serve alongside club president Jean Chrysostome Rindiro.
The General Assembly also approved the club’s change of name from AS Kigali to Kigali Football Club.
Founded in 1999, the club was initially known as Les Citadins before adopting the AS Kigali name in 2006.
Uwimana is a familiar figure in Rwandan football, combining experience in sports journalism, football administration and playing.
She currently serves on the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) committee responsible for the development of women’s football and works as a sports journalist at B&B Kigali FM.
She has previously worked with City Radio, Contact FM, Flash FM, Radio 10 and Vision FM.
Uwimana also has a playing background, having come through the AS Kigali WFC youth system before representing APAER WFC, where she served as captain, Uganda’s Citizen WFC, Source de Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, APR WFC and the Rwanda women’s national team.
Her appointment gives Kigali FC a leader with experience across football administration, media and the playing field as the club begins a new chapter under its new identity.
