Rwanda international defender Manzi Thierry has left Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli after three successful years, ending a spell in which he helped the club win seven trophies.

Al Ahli Tripoli announced the separation on Wednesday, August 19, saying the decision was reached by mutual agreement. The club described Manzi as the foreign player with the most titles in its history.

“Thierry, you were and will always remain part of our family. The foreign player with the most titles in our history,” the club said in its farewell message.

Manzi joined Al Ahli Tripoli in July 2023 from AS Kigali and went on to win three Libyan league titles, two Libyan Cups and two Libyan Super Cups during his time at the club.

He had extended his contract in August 2025 on a two-year deal, meaning he still had one year remaining before the latest agreement to end his stay.

The 29-year-old began his senior career at Marines FC before moving to Rayon Sports, where he established himself as one of Rwanda’s leading defenders between 2015 and 2019. He later joined APR FC, where he also served as captain.

Manzi subsequently moved abroad, playing for Georgia’s Dila Gori and Morocco’s AS FAR before returning to Rwanda briefly with AS Kigali and then joining Al Ahli Tripoli.

During his time at Rayon Sports, he helped the club win the 2016/17 and 2018/19 Rwanda Premier League titles and reach the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2018.

His departure leaves Al Ahli Tripoli preparing for the new season and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, with the Libyan club set to face Zanzibar’s KMKM FC in the first qualifying round.

Al Ahli Tripoli have been active in the transfer market this summer, signing Rwanda Premier League Player of the Year Girumugisha Jean Claude from Al Hilal Omdurman and Congolese striker Fiston Kalala Mayele from Egyptian club Pyramids FC.

Manzi’s next club has not yet been announced.
