Rwandan music star Tom Close has returned to the spotlight with a new single, “Look at Me,” marking his first release in more than a year and setting the stage for his upcoming eighth studio album, “Sunshine.”

The singer, whose real name is Dr. Muyombo Thomas, released “Look at Me” together with its music video on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The 3-minute-15-second love song was produced by Rel Beat, with audio work by Bob Pro and a music video directed by Meddy Saleh.

“Look at Me” is the first song to be released from “Sunshine,” which Tom Close is expected to unveil next week.

The release ends a year-long wait for new music from the veteran Rwandan artist. His previous song, “Cana Itara,” was released in June 2025 in collaboration with P-Fla and Green P.

“Sunshine” will be Tom Close’s eighth album, following “Essence,” a 13-track project released in 2023 that earned him the Album of the Year award at the Isango na Muzika Awards organised by Isango Star.

The new album is expected to further cement Tom Close’s reputation as one of the Rwandan artists of his generation with the most studio albums.

Tom Close rose to prominence in Rwanda’s music industry in 2007, establishing himself particularly in the R&B genre. In 2011, he became the inaugural winner of the Primus Guma Guma Super Star competition.

His victory earned him a cash prize and trophy, as well as an opportunity to collaborate with American singer Sean Kingston on “Good Time Tonight.”

Beyond music, Tom Close has pursued a career in medicine. He currently serves as head of the National Blood Transfusion Centre under the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), a position he has held since 2020 after being appointed by the Cabinet.

With “Look at Me” now available, attention turns to “Sunshine” as Tom Close prepares to add another chapter to a music career that has spanned nearly two decades.
