Police in Muhanga District have arrested a 40-year-old man after seizing 2,213 packages of cannabis allegedly found at his home, authorities said.

The suspect was arrested in Nyabisindu Village, Gitarama Cell, Nyamabuye Sector, following information provided by residents.

Preliminary information indicates that the cannabis was allegedly sourced from Ngororero District.

The suspect is being held at Nyamabuye Police Station as investigations continue to establish the source of the drugs and determine whether others were involved in their distribution.

CIP Hassan Kamanzi, police spokesperson for the Southern Province, commended residents and other partners for providing timely information, saying community cooperation helps prevent crimes and supports the arrest of suspects.

“Police greatly appreciates its partners who continue to promote the good practice of providing timely information to help prevent crimes before they occur,” Kamanzi said.

He warned people involved in the sale, distribution or use of illicit drugs to stop the activities, saying anyone found violating the law would face legal action.

Police urged residents to continue reporting people suspected of selling or distributing illicit drugs, saying timely information enables authorities to intervene early and protect communities from the health and security risks associated with drug abuse.
