Rwanda and Mozambique have agreed to strengthen military cooperation through the exchange of experience and expertise on soldiers’ welfare, following a week-long working visit by a Mozambican defence delegation.
Minister of Defence Juvenal Marizamunda received the delegation, led by Maj Gen Samuel Luluva, Mozambique’s Director General responsible for soldiers’ welfare services.
The visit focused on sharing experience in managing welfare programmes and improving services for military personnel and their families.
During the week, the delegation visited ZIGAMA CSS Bank, the Armed Forces Officers Shop (AFOS) and the Military Medical Insurance (MMI), as well as various projects supporting soldiers’ welfare.
The Mozambican officials also held discussions with their counterparts on approaches to providing welfare services and support to service members and their families.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, where they received briefings on the role of the Rwanda Patriotic Army in stopping the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The visit underscores efforts by the two militaries to expand cooperation beyond security matters by sharing practical experience in supporting service members and their families.
