Clubs competing in Rwanda’s 2026/27 BK Pro League will receive Rwf31 million each in financial support, more than triple the previous Rwf10 million package.
The Rwanda Premier League announced the new support package on August 29, alongside a Rwf1 million bonus for every league match a team wins.
The increase comes days before the new season kicks off on September 4, with the campaign scheduled to run until May 30, 2027.
The enhanced package is expected to give clubs more resources to prepare for the new season and meet operational costs.
The announcement follows a campaign pledge by Shema Fabrice, who proposed significantly higher prize money for teams finishing among the top eight in the league.
Under his proposed structure, the champions would receive Rwf80 million, followed by Rwf60 million for the runners-up and Rwf40 million for the third-placed team.
The fourth- and fifth-placed teams would receive Rwf30 million and Rwf25 million, respectively, while the sixth, seventh and eighth-placed teams would receive Rwf20 million, Rwf15 million and Rwf10 million.
The 2026/27 league will feature 16 clubs, including APR FC, Rayon Sports, Police FC, Musanze FC, Marines FC, Etoile de l’Est FC, AS Kigali, Sunrise FC, Gicumbi FC, Mukura VS&L, Gorilla FC, Bugesera FC, Gasogi United FC and Amagaju FC.
Sudanese sides Al Merrikh and Al Hilal will return for a second season in Rwanda’s top-flight competition.
The new financial measures come as clubs prepare for a season in which improved funding and performance-based incentives are expected to play a greater role in the league’s competitiveness.
