French diplomat Jérémie Blin has officially assumed his new role as the European Union’s representative in Rwanda after presenting copies of his credentials to Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe.
The presentation formally marked the start of Blin’s assignment in Rwanda.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said Nduhungirehe congratulated Blin on his appointment and wished him success in his new responsibilities. He also assured him of the Rwandan government’s cooperation.
Blin succeeds Belén Calvo Uyarra, who served as the EU’s representative in Rwanda before completing her tenure earlier this year.
He brings extensive diplomatic experience to the position, having previously served as France’s ambassador to Burundi and as chargé d’affaires at the French Embassy in Rwanda.
In his new role, Blin will work to strengthen relations and cooperation between Rwanda and the EU, with a focus on areas including economic development, sustainable development, education and governance.
The EU is one of Rwanda’s key development partners, with both sides collaborating on a range of initiatives aimed at supporting the country’s development and improving the well-being of its population.
