Rwanda and Armenia have signed an agreement to facilitate travel between the two countries for holders of diplomatic and service passports, allowing eligible travellers to enter without visas.
The agreement was signed on September 25, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York, United States.
It was signed by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, and his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, following talks between the two ministers.
The agreement covers holders of diplomatic and service passports and is intended to facilitate travel by government officials and public servants travelling between the two countries for official duties.
Armenia is a country in the South Caucasus, situated between Europe and Asia and bordering Georgia, Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Iran. Its capital is Yerevan.
The country is known for its distinctive history and cultural heritage, particularly its long Christian tradition. Armenia’s economy includes sectors such as services, technology, mining and agriculture.
The agreement comes as Rwanda continues to strengthen relations with countries in Europe and Asia, with a focus on expanding diplomatic engagement, trade, investment and cooperation in other areas.
For both countries, the visa waiver for diplomatic and service passport holders is expected to facilitate official travel and support closer engagement between government institutions.
