Rwanda’s women’s national football team, She-Amavubi, began a training camp on Sunday, September 27, as they prepare for the 2028 CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The team is based at Hotel Sainte Famille in Nyarugenge District, Kigali, as preparations intensify for their upcoming qualifying campaign.
Rwanda will host Ethiopia in the second round of the qualifiers on October 7, 2026, at Kigali Pele Stadium, with the match scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
The return leg will be played in Ethiopia on October 13.
The winner over the two legs will face the team that advances from the tie between Botswana and Tanzania in the next round.
She-Amavubi head coach Cassa Mbungo André has provisionally called up 29 players, most of whom play for clubs in Rwanda. The exceptions are Emeline Mukagatete, who plays in Spain, and Zawadi Usanase, who is based in Turkey.
Mukagatete, who plays for Féminas Fuensalida, arrived in Rwanda on Monday morning and immediately joined her teammates in camp.
How the qualification tournament works
A total of 35 of the 54 CAF member associations registered to take part in the Olympic qualifying tournament.
The six lowest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings contested the preliminary round, which produced three teams that advanced.
Those three teams joined the other 29 teams that had entered at the second-round stage, bringing the number of teams competing in that round to 32, including Rwanda and Ethiopia.
The 32 teams have been divided into two qualification paths, with 16 teams in each path.
The team that emerges at the top of each path will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States, scheduled to take place from July 10 to 29, 2028.
The second-round matches are scheduled for October 2026, while the third round will be played between February 23 and March 6, 2027.
The fourth round is scheduled for October 4–12, 2027, followed by the fifth and final round from November 23 to December 4, 2027.
