Sports Minister Nelly Mukazayire has hosted and congratulated Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, following two consecutive victories in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Rwanda defeated Liberia 3-1 at Amahoro Stadium on September 25, 2026, before securing a 2-1 away victory over Cape Verde on September 29.
The team was welcomed back in Kigali on Friday, October 2, during a reception held at the Kigali Convention Centre. Mukazayire attended the event alongside the interim leadership of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), headed by lawyer Claudine Gasarabwe.
Mukazayire praised the players and coaching staff for their commitment, particularly after their important away victory against Cape Verde in front of the home crowd.
The two wins have given Rwanda a strong start in Group K of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign, with Amavubi collecting six points from their opening two matches.
The minister also addressed difficulties the team faced while travelling back to Rwanda from Praia, Cape Verde, after the match.
She said the government would work to address the issue of travel arrangements and assured the team that plans were underway to provide dedicated flights for future national team trips.
The reception came as Amavubi continue their campaign with hopes of securing qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
