Rwanda sends Ebola medicines to Kenya amid outbreak

Kenya has received medicines from Rwanda to support its response to an ongoing Ebola outbreak, the Kenyan government has announced.

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, Dr Patrick Omwanda Amoth, a senior health official at Kenya’s Ministry of Health, said the country was continuing to receive support from various partners, including Rwanda, as it works to contain the outbreak.

“We are still receiving support and supplies from China and the World Health Organization (WHO). Today, we also received medicines donated by Rwanda as we continue to respond to this outbreak,” Amoth said.

Kenya has recorded eight Ebola cases, including one death, according to the report. The eighth case was confirmed after a person tested positive on Sunday.

Amoth said the latest patient was a 49-year-old healthcare worker who had developed symptoms including fever, headache and muscle pain. The patient was immediately isolated for medical care.

Kenya confirmed its first Ebola case on October 6, 2026. Those infected include healthcare workers and people linked to previously confirmed cases.

Rwanda’s donation comes as Kenya continues its response through patient care, testing suspected cases and tracing people who may have been in contact with infected individuals.

Rwanda and Kenya maintain cooperation across several sectors, including health, trade, security and regional development, particularly through the East African Community (EAC).
