Rwanda’s Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Festus Bizimana, on Wednesday presented his letters of credence to President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, marking another milestone in the growing diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Bissau on 23rd October 2025.

Ambassador Bizimana conveyed warm greetings and a message from President Paul Kagame, reaffirming Rwanda’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Guinea-Bissau.

The Rwandan envoy highlighted the expanding partnership between the two countries, noting that both sides are keen to advance existing agreements.

These include the visa exemption accord and a memorandum of understanding on tourism, which are expected to boost people-to-people exchanges and economic collaboration.

President Embaló commended the friendly and productive relationship between Guinea-Bissau and Rwanda and wished Ambassador Bizimana success in his diplomatic mission.

Ambassador Bizimana, who is based in Dakar, Senegal, is concurrently accredited to The Gambia, Mali, Cape Verde, and Senegal.

Bilateral relations between Rwanda and Guinea-Bissau have grown steadily since March 2022, when Presidents Paul Kagame and Umaro Sissoco Embaló held a historic meeting that led to the signing of several cooperation agreements.

These include accords on economic and trade cooperation, education, tourism, and a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) signed in September 2022.

Situated on the west coast of Africa, Guinea-Bissau shares borders with Senegal to the north, Guinea-Conakry to the east and southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

With a population of around 2.2 million, the country’s economy is largely driven by fishing and agriculture, particularly the production of rice, peanuts, and cashew nuts.
