The Secretary General of FPR–Inkotanyi, Amb. Christophe Bazivamo, on Tuesday received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Rwanda, Gao Wenqi, for discussions focused on strengthening party-to-party and bilateral relations.

The meeting highlighted the longstanding cooperation between FPR–Inkotanyi and the Communist Party of China (CPC), as well as the broader partnership between Rwanda and China.

The two sides underscored their shared commitment to deepening collaboration and exchanging experience in governance.

The CPC, one of the world’s oldest and largest political parties, was founded nearly a century ago by Mao Zedong alongside Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu. As of 2023, it had a membership of approximately 96.7 million.

FPR–Inkotanyi and the CPC maintain close ties, including a cooperation agreement signed in July 2023 aimed at promoting knowledge-sharing in governance. Both parties also share a history of leading liberation struggles in their respective countries—FPR–Inkotanyi in Rwanda between 1990 and 1994, and the CPC in China, culminating in the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.

Rwanda and China have maintained diplomatic relations for 54 years, with cooperation spanning key sectors such as trade, investment, health, education, agriculture, and technology.

China has been Rwanda’s leading source of foreign investment over the past five years, with investments rising from USD 280 million in 2020 to USD 460 million in 2024.

During a recent meeting with Ambassador Gao on July 29, President Paul Kagame reaffirmed Rwanda’s readiness to further strengthen relations with China. Ambassador Gao, in turn, reiterated China’s commitment to deepening cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
