Rwandan President Paul Kagame has arrived in Conakry, Guinea, to attend the inauguration of newly elected President Mamadi Doumbouya.

President Kagame landed in Conakry on Friday afternoon, January 16, 2026, and is set to join other African and international leaders at the ceremony on Saturday.

Upon arrival, he was received by Guinea’s Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah.

Doumbouya was elected President of Guinea on December 31, 2025, securing 86.7 percent of the vote. He was followed by Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé of the Frondeg party with 6.59 percent, along with eight other candidates. Doumbouya has been in power since September 2021, following the ouster of former President Alpha Condé.

After the election, President Kagame congratulated Doumbouya and reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation for the mutual development of both countries.

“We will continue to strengthen our strong bilateral relationship and work closely together to advance shared priorities and national development,” President Kagame said.

Rwanda and Guinea share a long-standing partnership built on mutual respect, cooperation, and a joint commitment to sustainable development, reinforced through regular high-level engagements and state visits.
