The Cabinet, chaired by President Paul Kagame, has appointed Jean Maurice Uwera as Deputy Government Spokesperson, filling a position that had remained vacant for more than eight months.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on January 28, 2026, according to resolutions released after the session.
The post had been unoccupied since the death of Alain Mukuralinda in April 2025.
Uwera, a former journalist, previously served as managing director of SK FM and worked for nearly a decade at the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), where he hosted Waramutse Rwanda and presented television news.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication from the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi.
This is Uwera’s first appointment to government. He will work alongside Yolande Makolo, who has served as Rwanda’s Government Spokesperson for the past five years.
