Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, on January 28, 2026, received a delegation of Members of Parliament from Namibia’s National Assembly, drawn from the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security.

The delegation is in Rwanda on a study visit aimed at exchanging knowledge and experience on policies and legal frameworks governing foreign affairs, defence and national security.

In his remarks, Minister Marizamunda thanked the Namibian MPs for choosing Rwanda as the destination for their study tour.

He highlighted the significant transformation Rwanda has undergone, noting that the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has steadily built professional capacity since the liberation struggle of the early 1990s, evolving into a modern and professional military force that safeguards national sovereignty, contributes to national development, and plays a key role in international peacekeeping missions.

According to the RDF, the delegation also received detailed briefings from the RDF Spokesperson, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, on the reform journey of the Rwanda Defence Force and its role in maintaining peace and security in the region.

The head of the Namibian delegation, James Unomasa, commended Rwanda’s Ministry of Defence for sharing its experience and reform journey in the defence and security sector.

Rwanda and Namibia already enjoy cooperation in various areas. Since 2015, the Rwanda National Police and the Namibian Police have maintained a cooperation agreement, particularly in the area of training.

By 2022, at least 15 senior Namibian police officers had completed senior command and staff courses at the Rwanda National Police College.

Beyond security cooperation, Rwanda and Namibia have also signed bilateral air services agreements aimed at promoting trade, tourism development and the movement of people between the two countries.
