Rwanda has been selected to host the General Assembly of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), marking the return of the prestigious global gathering to Africa for the first time in more than two decades.
The Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) announced that Kigali will host the 66th ICCA General Assembly from October 24–27, 2027. The next assembly, scheduled for 2028, will be held in Muscat, Oman.
The Kigali assembly is expected to attract more than 2,000 international leaders and experts from the global meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry, providing a high-level platform for dialogue, networking and business development.
ICCA Chief Executive Officer Dr Senthil Gopinath said the decision reflects confidence in Rwanda’s growing influence in the global meetings industry.
“ICCA is delighted to bring our General Assembly to Kigali in 2027 and to Muscat in 2028. Both destinations demonstrate ambition, innovation and a strong commitment to excellence—values that define the global meetings community,” he said.
He noted that the assemblies will serve as key platforms to strengthen partnerships, drive industry transformation and create new business opportunities for ICCA members worldwide.
ICCA is a leading global association for the international meetings industry, connecting professionals and organizations involved in planning and delivering congresses and conventions, while promoting collaboration, innovation and investment.
Rwanda has in recent years positioned itself as a leading hub for international conferences and events, hosting numerous high-profile regional and global meetings.
Securing the ICCA General Assembly reinforces Kigali’s status as a premier MICE destination and represents a significant milestone for Africa’s presence in the global meetings industry.
