The Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda, Soraya Hakuziyaremye, has extended condolences to families of former staff killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, noting that the pain of their loss remains deeply felt decades later.
She made the remarks on April 8, 2026, as staff and management of the central bank paid tribute to colleagues who lost their lives in the genocide.
During the commemoration held at the bank’s headquarters, Hakuziyaremye commended the fallen employees for their dedication and contribution to national development, highlighting the lasting impact of their service.
She emphasized that, even after 32 years, the grief left behind cannot fully fade, urging continued remembrance and recognition of their sacrifice.
“Even after 32 years, the pain does not fully go away. Remembering and honoring them is a responsibility we all share. We pay tribute to their lives, their legacy, and their courage during one of the darkest periods in our country’s history,” she said.
She called for sustained commitment to building a nation grounded in unity, truth, and peace as a way of honoring those who were lost.
