President Paul Kagame has held talks with the Chief Executive Officer of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Dr. Sania Nishtar, focusing on strengthening cooperation in vaccine delivery and health system resilience in Rwanda.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Village Urugwiro, during Dr. Nishtar’s working visit to the country.

Discussions centered on deepening collaboration to enhance public health resilience through expanded access to locally available vaccines, strengthening the health sector, and improving equitable delivery of immunisation services across the country.

On Monday, Dr. Nishtar and her delegation visited Mwulire Health Centre in Rwamagana District, as well as TKMD Rwanda Ltd, a medical syringe manufacturing facility, where she commended Rwanda’s progress in expanding access to vaccination services.

Rwanda and Gavi have maintained a long-standing partnership of over 25 years, dating back to 2000, which has significantly contributed to strengthening the country’s health system, particularly in protecting children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Through this cooperation, Rwanda has achieved 95% coverage in routine immunisation, positioning the country as one of the leading models for vaccination delivery in Africa.
