The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has provisionally suspended two football officials over allegations of misconduct, including suspected match manipulation and the use of witchcraft-related practices in official competitions.

In a statement issued, FERWAFA confirmed the temporary suspension of Gorilla FC’s equipment manager and a strength and conditioning coach for Amagaju FC, pending a final decision from its Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.

The federation stated that the two individuals will not be allowed to take part in any football-related activities during the investigation period, including access to technical areas, dressing rooms, training grounds, or match venues.

Allegations involving match interference and bribery

The Gorilla FC equipment manager, Ndatimana Olivier, is alleged to have been seen sprinkling a substance resembling powder mixed with grains of sorghum on the pitch at Kigali Pele Stadium shortly before a match against Rayon Sports in the Peace Cup competition.

The incident, which was reportedly captured on video and widely circulated, triggered concern within football authorities and prompted an immediate disciplinary review.

In a separate case, Amagaju FC strength and conditioning coach Japhet Imurora Hakizimana is accused of involvement in alleged match-fixing activities, including offering or promising bribes intended to influence match outcomes ahead of a league fixture between Musanze FC and Amagaju FC.

Disciplinary action underway

FERWAFA confirmed that both individuals were summoned to provide explanations regarding the allegations. The federation said its decision to suspend them was based on preliminary evidence gathered during the ongoing disciplinary process.

“Aba bombi bahagaritswe mu bikorwa byose bijyanye n’umupira w’amaguru, banabujijwe kwinjira mu gace ka tekiniki, mu rwambariro no ku kibuga haba mu myitozo no mu mikino, kugeza igihe hazafatirwa icyemezo cya nyuma na Komisiyo ishinzwe Imyitwarire,” the statement read.

The Ethics and Disciplinary Committee is expected to conduct further hearings before issuing a final ruling on the matter.

FERWAFA reaffirms commitment to integrity

The federation reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity, fairness, and professionalism of football competitions in Rwanda, stating that any conduct undermining fair play will not be tolerated.

It further emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring systems aimed at preventing match manipulation and safeguarding the credibility of national competitions.

The case has sparked discussions within the football community, with stakeholders calling for stricter enforcement of ethical standards and stronger oversight across clubs and technical staff.

FERWAFA maintained that preserving the integrity of the game remains a priority as football continues to grow in competitiveness and public interest in the country.
