Ministry of Infrastructure Rwanda has announced that electric vehicle charging stations will be installed across all districts in Rwanda within the next two months, as the country accelerates efforts to expand electric mobility infrastructure.
The announcement was made by the Senior Technical Advisor in charge of transport at MININFRA, Byiringiro Alfred, who said the government is working with private sector partners to roll out charging facilities nationwide and address existing infrastructure gaps.
He stated that efforts are underway to ensure coverage in all districts, expressing confidence that implementation will be completed within the set timeline.
Rwanda continues to promote electric mobility as part of its strategy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower transport costs, and curb emissions from the transport sector.
Officials say electric vehicles are expected to play a key role in addressing rising fuel prices and improving environmental sustainability.
The Minister of State in MININFRA, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, has previously indicated that government efforts will focus on expanding infrastructure while encouraging private investment in electric mobility systems.
Since 2020, Rwanda has intensified the promotion of electric transport as part of its green growth agenda, with increasing numbers of hybrid and fully electric vehicles, as well as growing adoption of electric motorcycles across the country.
