Rwanda’s U18 and U20 national handball teams have departed for Addis Ababa to compete in the IHF Trophy Zone 5 tournament, a key regional competition bringing together emerging talent from East Africa.
The teams left Kigali International Airport on Sunday, May 3, 2026, ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on Monday.
Rwanda’s U18 side has been drawn in Group A alongside Kenya, Tanzania, and Djibouti, setting up a competitive pool in the opening round.
Meanwhile, the U20 team will compete in Group B, where they are set to face hosts Ethiopia, as well as Tanzania and Djibouti.
The U20 squad is led by head coach Ntabanganyimana Antoine, assisted by Mudaharishema Sylvestre, while the U18 team is under the guidance of head coach Bagirishya Anaclet, working alongside Murwanashyaka Emmanuel.
The tournament offers Rwanda’s young handball prospects a crucial platform to gain international experience and test their competitiveness at the regional level.
