Rwanda’s industrial production increased by 6.2% in March 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).

The latest Index of Industrial Production report, released on May 7, 2026, shows that the sector maintained an average annual growth of 6.3%, reflecting steady expansion across key industries.

The strongest performance was recorded in the water supply and waste management sector, which grew by 16.8%, making it the leading driver of industrial growth during the period.

Mining and quarrying activities also posted modest growth of 1.8%, while overall manufacturing output rose by 0.9%.

Within manufacturing, growth was mainly supported by food processing industries, which increased by 4.2%, as well as metal products, machinery, and equipment manufacturing, which expanded by 8.4%.

However, the report highlights a decline in beverages and tobacco production, which fell by 2.4% year-on-year.

NISR notes that the overall performance reflects continued resilience in Rwanda’s industrial sector, with gains in essential production areas offsetting declines in selected sub-sectors.
