More than 100 students, teachers, and families killed at IFAK and surrounding schools during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi have been commemorated in a solemn ceremony held in Kimihurura, Kigali.

The commemoration brought together over 1,500 students and teachers from IFAK and nearby schools, alongside government officials and Rwanda Defence Force representatives, to honour the victims and reflect on the history of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

State Minister in the Ministry of Sports, Rwego Ngarambe, joined participants in paying tribute to the victims and called on young people to safeguard the history of the Genocide against the Tutsi, support survivors, and actively contribute to national unity and development.

He urged students to draw lessons from Rwanda’s history and to play a role in strengthening reconciliation and sustaining the country’s continued progress.

The event was also attended by the Commander of the First Division of the Rwanda Defence Force, Col Egide Ndayizeye, who highlighted the role of the former RPA forces in stopping the Genocide against the Tutsi.

He encouraged young people to reject genocide denial and revisionism, protect historical truth, and contribute to building a united and peaceful Rwanda while safeguarding the country’s achievements.
