Senate Vice President Soline Nyirahabimana has called on Rwandan youth to strengthen patriotism, defend the country against genocide ideology, and play an active role in preserving national unity and peace.
She made the call during a commemoration event held in Rwamagana District to honour families that were completely wiped out during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Speaking at the event, Nyirahabimana said remembering families that entirely perished during the Genocide against the Tutsi reflects the extreme brutality and inhumanity that characterized the killings.
She emphasized that Rwanda’s recovery and transformation have been built on unity among Rwandans, urging citizens to continue safeguarding the country’s achievements.
“We live in a peaceful and developing Rwanda because we remained committed to unity. The unity of Rwandans remains the foundation of the peace, security, and development the country has achieved,” she said.
The Senate Vice President warned against individuals who continue to spread genocide ideology, denial, and revisionism, calling on Rwandans, especially young people, to stand firm against any attempts to destabilize the country.
She further encouraged the youth to use social media and other communication platforms to promote positive narratives about Rwanda and contribute to protecting the country’s image and progress.
“Let us love our country and defend it in every possible way. Young people have the tools and platforms to tell the story of the Rwanda they are growing up in,” she said.
