Four young men have fled after being caught in the act while attempting to steal equipment from a telecom mast in Munyinya Village, Ruri Cell, Shyogwe Sector, Muhanga District.
The incident occurred when the suspects reportedly arrived in a white double-cabin pickup truck and began removing batteries from the tower, with 12 batteries already loaded before they were intercepted.
Residents say the suspects were first noticed by a night patrol, which immediately intervened and disrupted the theft.
As more residents responded to the scene, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and the stolen equipment and fled on foot.
Shyogwe Sector Executive Secretary Nsengimana Oswald confirmed that the suspects had already loaded 12 batteries used in the telecom tower before escaping and leaving their vehicle behind.
He added that security organs have taken custody of the vehicle used in the attempted theft, while investigations and efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
