Popular Rwandan DJ and music producer Shema Arnaud de Bosscher, widely known as DJ Toxxyk, has been sent back to prison after the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court sentenced him to one year and six months in jail, overturning his earlier release.

DJ Toxxyk had been released on 4 May 2026, but prosecutors appealed the decision, leading to a fresh ruling that also imposed a fine of Rwf1.05 million.

He was returned to Nyarugenge Prison in Mageragere on 22 May 2026 to begin serving the sentence.

The court found him guilty on multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter, drug-related offences involving narcotic substances, fleeing the scene after causing an accident, and refusing to undergo an alcohol test.

The case stems from a road accident that occurred in Nyarugenge District in the early hours of 20 December 2025, in which a police officer on duty lost his life.

During subsequent investigations, authorities reportedly searched DJ Toxxyk’s residence and recovered cannabis.

According to the judiciary, the court had initially considered imposing a sentence of four years and six months in prison in addition to the monetary fine. However, the sentence was reduced after the court considered mitigating circumstances.

Judges cited his admission of guilt on all charges, his request for forgiveness, and the fact that it was his first conviction as reasons for reducing the punishment to one year and six months imprisonment along with the Rwf1.05 million fine.
