Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province on Sunday strengthened community relations through a friendly football match with youth from Mocímboa da Praia District, highlighting the role of sport in promoting unity, peace, and social cohesion.
The match brought together local leaders, residents, and security officials from both Rwanda and Mozambique in an event aimed at deepening the bond between communities and the Rwandan forces supporting security and stabilization efforts in the region.
The youth team from Mocímboa da Praia emerged victorious with a 2–1 win in a match characterized by sportsmanship and mutual respect.
The initiative forms part of ongoing community outreach activities undertaken by Rwanda Security Forces to foster trust and cooperation with local populations while contributing to the restoration of normal life in areas previously affected by insecurity and terrorism.
Speaking after the match, Mocímboa da Praia District Administrator Helena Bandeila underscored the importance of sport as a tool for building unity and strengthening social ties among communities.
She encouraged young people to continue embracing teamwork, solidarity, and a spirit of collaboration, particularly in supporting efforts aimed at safeguarding peace and stability in Cabo Delgado.
Bandeila also praised Rwanda Security Forces for their contribution to restoring security and creating an environment conducive to development and community recovery.
She noted that the presence and engagement of Rwandan forces have helped communities regain confidence and rebuild their lives following years of instability caused by terrorist activities in the province.
The football match comes amid continued efforts by Rwanda Security Forces to engage with local communities through various social and development-oriented activities, including medical outreach programmes, infrastructure rehabilitation, and youth engagement initiatives.
Since their deployment to Mozambique in 2021, Rwanda Security Forces have played a key role in supporting Mozambican authorities in combating terrorism and restoring stability in Cabo Delgado, enabling thousands of residents to return to their homes and resume economic activities.
The latest sporting event reflects the growing partnership between local communities and Rwanda Security Forces, demonstrating how sport can serve as a powerful platform for promoting reconciliation, social integration, and lasting peace.
