Rwanda has increased diesel prices by more than 30% while keeping petrol prices unchanged, according to new fuel prices announced by the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA).
Under the revised pricing structure, which took effect at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, diesel now costs Rwf2,927 per litre, up from Rwf2,205. Petrol remains unchanged at Rwf2,938 per litre.
The adjustment marks the first increase in diesel prices since April, when RURA opted to maintain the fuel at Rwf2,205 per litre despite changes in international oil markets. Petrol prices were last revised upward on April 17, rising from Rwf2,303 to Rwf2,938 per litre.
RURA said the latest review reflects developments in global petroleum markets and takes into account government measures aimed at sustaining the viability of the fuel supply chain while cushioning the economy and consumers from market volatility.
Despite the significant rise in diesel prices, the regulator said the adjustment will not affect public transport fares.
The authority added that it will continue to monitor international and regional fuel market trends, oversee service delivery standards, and ensure the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.
The latest review leaves petrol prices unchanged at Rwf2,938 per litre, while diesel reaches its highest level in recent months at Rwf2,927 per litre.
