The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced extended operating hours for bars, nightclubs, restaurants and other businesses during the FIFA World Cup period, in a temporary measure aimed at supporting economic activity and accommodating increased demand for hospitality services.
The new schedule, which takes effect from June 12 to July 20, 2026, applies to businesses across the country throughout the tournament period.
According to RDB, establishments including shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs will be allowed to operate until 3:00 a.m. from Monday to Thursday, while weekend and public holiday operations will be extended until 4:00 a.m.
The decision is expected to boost the hospitality and entertainment sectors, particularly during a period when global sporting events typically drive increased social and commercial activity.
RDB stated that the temporary arrangement is intended to improve service delivery and enhance the experience of residents and visitors during the tournament.
The authority, however, maintained that existing regulations on noise control, public order and responsible alcohol consumption remain in force.
It reiterated that the sale of alcohol to persons under the age of 18 remains prohibited, and urged businesses to uphold responsible service standards, including not serving alcohol to visibly intoxicated customers.
Authorities also reminded the public to exercise caution, including avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol.
The temporary guidelines replace previous closing-hour restrictions that required nightlife establishments to shut earlier during weekdays and weekends.
