Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations mission in the Central African Republic have been urged to maintain professionalism, discipline, and strict adherence to UN regulations while remaining fully prepared to execute their mandate.
The call was made during a visit by Brig Gen Franco Rutagengwa, Commander of Rwandan forces deployed under MINUSCA, to the headquarters of the Second Battalion of Rwanda Defence Force troops (RWABAT-2) in Bossembele.
The visit focused on assessing the battalion’s operational readiness, equipment status, and overall performance in its peacekeeping responsibilities.
Speaking to the troops, Brig Gen Rutagengwa emphasized that compliance with UN guidelines and MINUSCA procedures remains essential for the effective delivery of peacekeeping operations. He also underscored the importance of sustained readiness to respond to operational challenges in a complex security environment.
He commended RWABAT-2 for its professionalism, discipline, and commitment, urging the soldiers to continue upholding the core values of the Rwanda Defence Force throughout their mission.
RWABAT-2 is responsible for securing Main Supply Route One (MSR1), a strategic highway linking the capital Bangui to the Cameroon border. The route is critical for the movement of goods and people, and plays a key role in trade and economic activity in the Central African Republic.
Beyond security operations, the battalion is also involved in community support initiatives, including public service activities, free medical outreach, and infrastructure development aimed at strengthening relations with local communities.
Recently, the troops constructed a basketball court for youth in Bossembele as part of efforts to promote sports development and enhance community engagement.
