APR Handball Club have been crowned Rwanda men’s handball champions for the 2025/26 season after a tense 31–29 victory over Police HC in a decisive fifth playoff match at Petit Stade in Remera.
The final, played on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, brought an end to a closely contested series that was level at 2–2, setting up a winner-takes-all showdown.
APR HC made a strong start, going into halftime with a narrow 16–14 lead after a disciplined first-half display.
Police HC responded strongly after the break, but both sides matched each other goal for goal in a tightly fought second half, which ended 15–15. APR HC ultimately held their nerve in the closing stages to secure a 31–29 win and clinch the title with a 3–2 series victory.
The triumph marks a dramatic comeback for APR HC, who had fallen 2–0 behind in the final series before recovering to win three consecutive matches and lift the trophy.
It also reverses last season’s outcome, when Police HC defeated APR HC 3–0 in the 2024/25 final to claim the championship.
Elsewhere, ESC Nyamagabe were crowned women’s champions after a dominant 40–23 victory over UR Rukara in the final.
In the women’s semifinals, ESC Nyamagabe had eliminated Nyamasheke HC, while UR Rukara advanced after a 24–19 win over University of Kigali HC.
In the men’s second division, Mutenderi TSS secured the title after defeating TTC de la Salle 31–24 in the final, having reached the decider with a 49–29 win over Elias Academy, while TTC de la Salle overcame GSFA Kibogora 34–25 in the semifinals.
GSFA Kibogora finished third after a 39–27 victory over Elias Academy in the bronze medal match.
