A group of 165 students from nine African countries has visited the Rwanda Police headquarters in Kacyiru as part of a Pan-African programme aimed at promoting innovation, leadership and knowledge exchange among young people.

The students, accompanied by parents and educators, were introduced to the operations of different Rwanda Police units, including the Fire and Rescue Brigade and the Traffic and Road Safety Department.

They were received on Friday by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, the Rwanda Police spokesperson and Commissioner for Corporate Communications, who welcomed the group on behalf of the institution’s leadership.

The visit was part of the 12-day Pan-African Innovation Bootcamp taking place at Ntare Louisenlund School in Bugesera District.

Organised by Coderina EdTech, the bootcamp brings together young learners from across Africa to promote technology-driven education, creativity and a deeper understanding of the continent’s history.

Addressing the students, ACP Rutikanga said Rwanda’s security is built on effective leadership, professional institutions and the active participation of citizens.

He explained that maintaining security is not the responsibility of security organs alone, noting that citizens play an important role by sharing information that helps prevent crimes and protect communities.

Rutikanga also highlighted Rwanda Police’s growing use of technology to improve service delivery, including digital solutions in traffic management, driving tests, vehicle inspections and public safety services.

Ndekezi Ange Gabriella, Coderina EdTech Rwanda Country Director, thanked Rwanda Police for hosting the students, saying the visit provided valuable lessons on public safety and Rwanda’s transformation journey.

She said the bootcamp was designed to prepare young people aged between nine and 18 for future leadership by combining innovation skills with knowledge of Africa’s history and the importance of unity among Africans.

The programme will continue with visits to different sites across Rwanda, where students will learn about the country’s recovery after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, innovation ecosystem and efforts towards sustainable development.
