Officers and other personnel from Rwanda’s defence, police and correctional services have completed a five-month military training programme designed to strengthen their leadership, command and operational skills.
The training, held at the Gabiro Military Training Centre, brought together personnel from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).
The programme prepared participants for leadership responsibilities at company and platoon levels, as well as roles involving the administration and day-to-day management of personnel.
At the closing ceremony, RDF Chief of Defence Staff Gen MK Mubarakh commended the graduates for their discipline, commitment and dedication throughout the five-month course.
He said continuous training is essential to maintaining a professional force capable of responding to evolving security challenges.
“For a soldier to perform their duties effectively, they must continuously undergo rigorous training. Military training prepares personnel for tasks that require a high level of physical and mental resilience,” Gen Mubarakh said.
He urged the graduates to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice and maintain the discipline and professional conduct expected of security personnel.
Capt Godfrey Kagabo, one of the graduates, said the training strengthened his ability to plan and conduct military operations and prepare for contemporary combat situations.
Capt Betty Mukunzi said the programme increased her confidence and prepared her for greater leadership responsibilities. She also stressed that effective leadership should be based on competence rather than gender.
The training covered military skills, operational planning, strategic thinking, leadership and management.
Participants were also equipped to handle command and administrative responsibilities within their respective institutions.
The graduation marks another step in Rwanda’s efforts to strengthen professional development and leadership capacity across its security institutions, with a focus on preparing personnel to respond to current and emerging security challenges.
