A fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, July 11, at the Zara Investment building in Kigali’s Masoro Industrial Zone, damaging a commercial facility that houses Masaka Farms and other businesses.

The Rwanda National Police Fire and Rescue Brigade responded promptly and managed to contain the blaze before it spread to surrounding properties.

The building comprised three sections, including the premises of Masaka Farms, a fertilizer warehouse, and a storage facility containing various commercial goods.

Rwanda National Police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga said the fire started at around 1:45 a.m. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the incident and assess the extent of the damage.

Rutikanga urged business owners and industrial operators to strengthen fire prevention measures and ensure their properties are adequately insured against potential losses.

“Manufacturers and traders should always have insurance that reflects the value of their assets,” he said.

Despite the extensive property damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The fire occurred at a time when the building was unoccupied, and emergency responders prevented it from reaching nearby buildings.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
