The Government of Rwanda has thanked outgoing European Union (EU) Ambassador to Rwanda, Belén Calvo Uyarra, for her contribution to strengthening cooperation between Kigali and the bloc during her tenure.
The appreciation was conveyed on July 14, 2026, when State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Usta Kaitesi, received Ambassador Calvo Uyarra for a farewell meeting as she concluded her diplomatic assignment in Rwanda.
In a statement shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Kaitesi commended the outgoing ambassador for her role in advancing the partnership between Rwanda and the European Union.
“Minister Usta Kaitesi thanked Ambassador Belén Calvo Uyarra for her valuable contribution to strengthening the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and the European Union,” the Ministry said.
She also wished the ambassador success in her future responsibilities following the completion of her mission in Rwanda.
Rwanda and the European Union have maintained a broad partnership covering areas such as trade, development cooperation, education, infrastructure, environmental protection, security and governance.
Ambassador Calvo Uyarra took up her role as EU Ambassador to Rwanda in September 2022, representing the bloc in Kigali for nearly four years.
She will be succeeded by Jérémie Blin, a French diplomat appointed as the EU Ambassador to Rwanda, who will continue representing the European Union from Kigali.
