Rwanda has deployed a new contingent of police officers to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), replacing colleagues who have completed a one-year deployment.

The returning officers, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jean D’Amour Ndagijimana, were welcomed back to Kigali on July 15 by Commissioner of Police (CP) Yahaya Kamunuga, who represented the Rwanda National Police leadership.

Ahead of the deployment, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Commissioner General Felix Namuhoranye urged the outgoing officers to uphold Rwanda’s reputation as one of the world’s most respected contributors to UN peacekeeping operations.

He encouraged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and integrity, emphasizing that their conduct would reinforce the confidence the international community has placed in Rwanda’s peacekeepers.

“The reputation Rwanda enjoys today is the result of the dedication and professionalism of those who served before you. It is now your responsibility to uphold and further strengthen that legacy through exemplary service,” Namuhoranye told the officers.

He also called on the contingent to respect local customs, work collaboratively with fellow peacekeepers from other countries, and ensure the proper management of mission equipment throughout their deployment.

Rwanda first deployed police officers to the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic in 2014. It currently has four Formed Police Units operating in Bangui, Bangassou, and Kaga-Bandoro, where they support civilian protection, public security, and stabilization efforts under the UN mandate.

Recognized as one of the leading contributors to UN peacekeeping, Rwanda continues to play a key role in promoting peace and stability through the deployment of highly trained police and military personnel to conflict-affected countries.
