Newly promoted Sunrise FC has continued to strengthen its squad for the upcoming Rwanda Premier League season, signing Burundian midfielders Djuma Intibazonkiza and Jean Petit Nzeyimana from Gicumbi FC.
The Nyagatare-based club announced on Thursday that both players have signed two-year contracts after spending one season with Gicumbi FC.
Intibazonkiza, 26, and Nzeyimana, 29, joined Gicumbi from Burundian club Rukinzo FC and are expected to add experience and depth to Sunrise’s midfield as the team prepares for its top-flight return.
The duo become Sunrise’s fourth and fifth signings of the transfer window, underscoring the club’s ambition to build a competitive squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The club had earlier secured the services of striker Rashidi Mapoli Yekini from Amagaju FC, goalkeeper Didier Mfashingabo from Bugesera FC and Nigerian forward Duru Ikenna from Gorilla FC.
Sunrise resumed pre-season training on July 13 at Nyagatare District Stadium, popularly known as “Gologota”, under head coach Banamwana Camarade.
Alongside the new arrivals, the club has retained key members of last season’s squad, with Christian Ndikumana, Jimmy Gatete and Moses Nyamurangwa all signing new contracts as Sunrise intensifies preparations for life back in the Rwanda Premier League.
