Rwanda Women’s Premier League champions Rayon Sports WFC have officially started preparations for the 2026/27 season and unveiled a new captaincy structure as they target success on both domestic and regional fronts.
The team began pre-season training on Monday at the Skol Ground in Nzove, under head coach Claude Rwaka, as players returned to action ahead of the new campaign.
The opening session was attended by Rayon Sports technical director Dylan Lienart, who met with the squad and shared his expectations as the team begins its preparations.
The club announced Uwase Andersen as the new captain, taking over from Uwimbabazi Immaculée, who previously led the team.
Niyonshuti Emerance has been appointed first vice-captain, while Gikundiro Scholastique will serve as second vice-captain.
Rayon Sports are preparing for a season that will see them defend their domestic title and represent Rwanda in the CECAFA qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The regional tournament will be held in Rwanda from August 22 to September 6, 2026, with teams competing for a place in Africa’s top women’s club competition.
Last season, Rayon Sports reached the CECAFA final but missed out on qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League after suffering a 1-0 defeat to JKT Queens. The club will now be hoping to go one step further and secure Rwanda’s place in the continental tournament.
