Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra has awarded medals of recognition to Rwandan peacekeepers serving under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), in recognition of their commitment and professionalism.
The medals were presented to members of Rwanda Battalion 15 (RWANBATT-15) on July 21, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Bangui, after the troops completed one year of service under the UN mission.
The award was given in appreciation of the soldiers’ role in protecting civilians, supporting peace efforts and contributing to security and stability in the Central African Republic.
RWANBATT-15 Commander Lt. Col. Paul Gasasira thanked President Touadéra for the support extended to the battalion during its deployment, saying it enabled the troops to effectively fulfil their mandate.
He also praised the discipline, professionalism and dedication demonstrated by Rwandan peacekeepers throughout their mission.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Central African Republic government, Rwanda’s Ambassador to CAR Olivier Kayumba, military leaders and members of the Rwandan community living in the country.
Rwanda is among the largest contributors of troops to MINUSCA, with its peacekeepers involved in efforts aimed at protecting civilians, maintaining security and supporting peace and stability in the Central African Republic.
